The cut off between 'classic' and 'modern' Vocaloid is a completely
subjective one that I made based on my own listening history and
viewpoint of the songs. It was just around 2013 that I sort of changed
how I was listening to Vocaloid and started paying attention to the
names behind the music for the first time. Before this point,
as far as I was concerned, Hatsune Miku was writing all this music
herself! But then I started learning producer names, listening to
different covers of the same song, and gradually gaining more knowledge.
Here are some songs that have come out since 2013 that I enjoy or find
noteworthy in some way.

This one is pretty sexually explicit, so be warned, lol.
Honestly, this song is kind of messed up, but it's so damn
catchy that I listen to it all the time. There's a very unique
sound to it that I don't exactly know how to describe. It's very
frantic and yet somehow blasé at the same time. I like the short
section at 1:40 where the pace slows down momentarily before
picking back up again.

This song came out at a time when I really needed to hear it.
The message is really important to me (at least the way that I
interpret it anyway). This is a song about unhealthy love -
whatever type of love or subject that might refer to - and
deciding when you've had enough of that feeling. The MV is
absolutely gorgeous as well, and I love the wordplay of 'love
it' vs. 'rabbit' throughout the song.

I swear I listen to more stuff than edgy songs;; I promise
This is one of the scariest songs I've ever heard. I absolutely
love it but it gives me a huge sense of unease whenever I listen
to it, like people weren't meant to hear this song. Extremely
hardcore/industrial/breakcore maybe? Loud and shrill, and also
has lots of flashing, so be careful.

I just found this song recently, by a producer I haven't heard
of before! This is a gritty yet catchy song featuring Whisper
Miku. I like her design in the video and her jaunty, uncanny
movements. She sounds very unique in this song. I especially
like the vocal surprise at the end! I haven't looked up lyrics
for it, so I'm just vibing based on the sound of it at the
moment.

Absolutely hypnotic song!! KAFU's vocals are so smooth and
realistic, and paired with the industrial, grinding backing
track, it makes for a very isolating and yearning atmosphere.
This was the first KAFU song I ever heard, so I kind of
associate her with this style of music now. This is a song about
the world's morals and standards and how many things are just
expected to be understood implicitly.
